blender graphics issue

I'm getting a strange graphics issue were the mouse is acting like an eraser for the blender background.

I've no idea what is causing that but its real annoying. I tried new graphics drivers and still issue persists.

We need more information:
- Which graphics hardware with which drivers?
- Which version of Blender?
- Which graphics mode is Blender set up to use (OpenGL, Software rendering)?
- Does the problem persist if you change the graphics mode in Blender?

tried different window managers; pekwm still had same issue, then switched to xfwm4 and issue went away.
