Blender 2.41 wacky crash

I'm having a little problem with Blender v2.41 on my Kubuntu laptop. When I start blender every thing looks fine. But, once I select an object by right clicking it, the screen goes crazy. Just colored lines and triangles every where, menus and all. I can exit by using Alt+F4. It was working when I first installed it, and then one day I was working on a project when this first happened.

I can add objects and if I tab into edit mode I can move the object and it vertex. But if I'm not in edit mode I can't touch the object with out it crashing. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Blender with no luck. I've tried deleting my '~/.blender/' folder thinking it may be something in the settings. I've also changed my display setting and also tried restoring them to the original settings. Non of this worked.

I do have Blender installed on two other computer running the same version of Kubuntu and they work fine.

Any suggestion would be great.

Thanks.
