Blackbox or any alternative WMs on SuSE 9.1 personal

How to setup SuSE 9.1 personal so that I can select between window managers at login time?

I downloaded and installed Blackbox from a SuSE rpm, but I cannot run it: there is no control on the kdm login window by which I could select a session other than kde.

I also tried to select xdm as my login manager with the sysconfig editor, but then the login screen became even more simple: I could only type in my username and password, nothing more.

I also tried to enter blackbox as my default window manager in the /etc/sysconfig editor, but that was completely ignored by the system (maybe because it was not among the selectable choices there (only kde, fvwm were shown there), but I entered it manually 'cause I was sure I had blackox on my system)

I thought I might do some changes to my $HOME/.xinitrc, but there was no such file there, only a .xinitrc.template file. I wonder why?

Besides, I wonder if there is still a way to use blackbox under SuSE 9.1?

Edit:
In the meantime I could start blackbox from konsole:

WINDOWMANAGER="blackbox" startx -- :2

However, I would still prefer to choose it from the login window with some mouseclicks, if possible.

does kdm have an option to run Xsession?

if so: just make a file in your home dir called .Xsession and put something like:
Code:
#!/bin/bash

exec blackbox

( also note: .Xsession will get run by the startx script if it exists )
