Black Screen following Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 install - What Next?

In short my 120GB Acer Aspire One was running Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I 'upgraded' to 9.10 UNR and all I get is a Black screen.

Now I have the older 9.04 version on a USB stick, but need to know how to have the machine boot this so I can re-install it. The default is the hard disk
at present. Help desperately needed as the item is a promised present having agreed to sell this item to a friend.

What can I do next ?

Many Thanks,

Barrie (Torquay UK)

There's an option in the BIOS of the Aspire that you need to change to get it to boot from USB before it boots from the hard disk. Reboot the machine with the USB stick plugged in, and when the boot screen comes up press F12. This should give you a menu with all available bootable devices. Choose the one you need and press enter.

That is / would of course be straightforward, but I get a totally blank screen, no obvious sign of hard disk activity and no boot screen of any kind - THAT is my problem. Any other ideas ?

So the machine does not Post? Pull out the battery, remove the power supply. With no power supply or battery attached, press the power button 11 times. On the 11th time you press the power button hold it down for 45 seconds. Put the battery back in and try to power it on and see what happens.
