try throwing the latest knoppix cd in and booting from that, it (in my opinion) has the best out-of-the-box hardware detection/configuration available. If it works ok, you can choose to install it to the disk (it is a cd distro, meaning it makes no changes to your hard drive) or you can then look at what hardware was detected and how it was configured and apply that to redhat.

get it from knopper.net/knoppix

have you looked up the compatibility with your hardware for red hat already? Is it supposed to work perfectly with your laptop? Usually laptops are notorious for not working very well due to having 3/4 of the things they use built onboard.

Anyway, if you haven't already, check here:

http://hardware.redhat.com/hcl/

use google too for your laptop model and linux

If you keep getting errors, try selecting from the video device driver list, the VESA driver, this is like the generic VGA driver from windows and most of the time is failproof (depending on your hardware, or course), but almost all laptops use well supported video devices at least in 2D (do not expect to get 3D accel easy, though). If you know exactly the brand and memory of that particular video chipset, then you should try the VESA and then reconfigure XFree (the program to draw the graphical interface). If you keep having problems, post them!
