Bizarre XF86Config problem...
Well, I've got a fresh install here on an old Toshiba Satellite Pro 425CDS. 100mhz Pentium, 48 mb Ram, 1 gig hard drive.
Vectorlinux 3.2 (slack based) XFree86 3.3.6 I get a bizarre error from the xserver trying to start her up. code: XF86Config: /etc/XF86Config (**) stands for supplied, (--) stands for probed/default values Config Error: /etc/XF86Config:2 Section "Files" ^^ File section keyword expected XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining. /endcode so I go and check the syntax, check my font paths, and everything is good to go... Hopefully someone can help. Here's that section of the XF86Config file Section "Files" RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled" # FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/" # FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/" EndSection Thanks all :\ I'll let you know if i get this figured out. -Shade |
Update:
Problem solved in an equally bizarre manner. Through sheer luck, I found the problem while pulling my hair out editing the file in MC. Turns out there was some kind of "invisible" break after every line, I had to hit delete twice at the end of every line to delete the last character. I took off that last invisible character off of each line and the problem was gone. Hoorah. :) another hurdle jumped. ps- anyone ever seen that before? I downloaded the file off the net -Shade |
Any idea what file you dloaded? I'm wondering if that's my problem too.
