Bittorrents

Hey Everyone,
I know this may sound silly...but I need some knowledge on bittorents...I haven't used a p2p application (Napster, Kazaa, Limewire) since I was in college on a windows machine..so I'm looking for some knowledge...now that I'm on a Linux machine which I love and will never go back to windows unless I'm at work

I'm trying to understand the risks of using a bittorrent app.... I understand not everything is safe so I'm just looking to find out if I'm at greater risk of being hacked, rootkit'd or any other malicious act if i start using a bittorrent like transmission which comes with Fedora 11.

I see folks use bittorrents alot, but since I'm on a Linux machine now are my risks less or greater?

Thanks,

Probably less, but you should always be careful what you are downloading. If you are going to download something, then you should execute the file not as root just in case it was infected.
*Stealing is bad*, but I can't stop you

good luck,
