bittorrent rpm
 

I downloaded a bittorrent program to my folder and it was a rpm that you clicked on and then it installed.
I want to test this by downloading a file.
I clicked on the .torrent file that was downloaded to the desktop and it opened a window asking about what to opent this file with.
I believe that bittornado the program is in the program folder but not sure where or how to run this against the .torrent file that was downloaded.
any instructions would be appreciated.

Open the bittorrent application you installed then open it that way rather than double clicking the .torrent file.

when you say the application is that the one that was installed when I clicked on the rpm that was in my folder?
Also I cannot seem to find where that is although I did see it in programs when I was doing some searching.
would you be so kind to be more specific??

Yes, I meant for you to open the bittorrent client you installed with the RPM in your home folder.

When you say you saw the bittorrent program in programs, do you mean you saw it in the Gnome menu/KDE menu? If so, open that.

I am using KDE and I am still trying to find where I opened programs and saw bittorrent in there.
right now I have the .torrent file on the desktop.
I think I will have to be at Root in order to find the program file correct?

I found the file that I was talking about but that is on my windows program folder so forget about.
below is the file that is in my folder. When I clicked on it I was asked for password then it installed it. That is the one I thought would be used when I click on the .torrent file on my desktop.
but when I click on the .torrent file it opens a terminal window which is called bittorrent and I guess that I am lost as to what to key into the terminal window.

Aah. Yeah. The BitTorrent client you have for Linux is probably command-line only, which is a bit of a drag.

I recomend installing Azureus , in my opinion it is the best BitTorrent client with the most information.

Unless you want to try reading the man page for BitTorrent.

I have downloaded the file and have never installed a file like this. I am somewhat familuar with tar cmd and the .tar.gz

what do you use for this type??

I did find an article on installing rpm and tar tz files but they gave options that seem to be in conflict.
i use to put in zxvf but that does not work.

You run Mandrake right? Well...

Can't you just do 'urpmi azureus' ? That would probably do it.

no that won't work as it is not a rpm file.
when you install a program where does it then reside???

No, I mean, urpmi installs programs over the internet doesn't it? So if you did urpmi azureus it would download azureus and its dependencies from a Mandrake repository?

Programs you install can reside in a number of places. /usr/bin /usr/sbin /usr/local/bin /usr/local/sbin /opt etc...but if you just go to a command line and type the beginning of a program and press 'tab' twice it will complete the name...like if you type 'bitto' and press tab twice it will complete the name...and then you can press enter and it will run.

thanks for all the help and tips. Right now I am downloading 10.2 using bittorrent in a windows XP machine but will try your ideas later this afternoon.
