Hi!

I'm currently trying to install several scientific programs onto a stand-alone Red Hat 8.o workstation, but keep geting errors like "Segmentation fault" and "the program primer3core must be on the path"

Being a relative newbie I'd appreciate any pointers on how to fix problems, good books etc.

Thanks!

Hunnybunny.

What programs are you trying to install? Are you getting a segmentation fault during the install of the program or when you try and run the program?

Give us more detail please.

Hi Crashed_again!

I've successfully installed the EMBOSS suite of programmes, but get teh error message when I try to run eprimer3; input and output files are fine but then I get the "eprimer_core" and "Seg fault" messages.

Hope this is enough info.

Well, a Seg Fault error basically means your up <insert_bad_word_here>'s creek without a paddle. Its the program itself. It rarely has anything to do with the way you installed it.
