Bill Reminder or Alert Application

can anyone direct me to a simple program to alert for recurring events, such as birthdays, bills, etc, and issue reminders for them? I'm sure one exists, I just am missing it.. Thanks I should mention I'm running gnome, so an applet or something would be nice, but anything is better than nothing

EDIT: found remind, kalarm, email-reminder.. all in the debian repos.. what do you guys use?

Something like this would be nice

EDIT2: settled on redminer.. works nicely, and GTK to boot

In the Gnome environment, there is gnome-pim.

In Kde, there is korganizer.

There may be others as well.
