Big problem with cdrecord

This all has to do with the kernel because if I go to 2.6.7, it works fine.

Problem: When burning an audio CD with cdrecord and 2.4.26 kernel, the cd will spin up, then start burning--the system load will increase from its normal 0.1 all the way up to 9.0 or 10.0 sometimes higher...
I do not want to use 2.6 series for reason well known to some.
If anyone knows a solution or kernel patch, please reply.

This only happens while burning an audio cd, padding or no padding.

Note: Using an ATAPI CDRW w/ SCSI emulation.

No not percentage...
The problem is my system nearly hangs when trying to burn an audio cd.
I've talked to others who use 2.4.26, 2.4.27, 2.6.8.1, and 2.6.9--they all have the same problem.
Looks to me like it's a kernel thing.
The odd part is, it only happens during audio burning.
