Better Email Client: Thunderbird or Evolution?

New Linux user...loving it for the most part, and still have a lot to learn, but here's my big gripe so far. I love Thunderbird, so I installed it first thing. However, the interface doesn't seem to work as easily as it did in Windows, eg. the lightning app and email interface aren't viewable in the same screen: I have to flip back and forth. Another reason I love Thunderbird is the provider for a Google calendar. However, when I tried to set up the calendar with Google, T-bird didn't allow me to complete the process; it hung up. And it's done the same thing every attempt since. I also love the minimize to tray option for Windows. Is there something I'm missing, or is Thunderbird simply not fully compatible with Gutsy Gibbon? For all I use the client for, should I consider simply using Evolution (of which I know virtually nothing)?

Try evolution - it is very good.

It really depends on what you want, and what you need. And of course, what you prefer.

OK...

I've been delving into Evolution...seems great. Two questions, though. (1) Is there any way to sync it with Google Calendar? and (2) Is there any way to setup mail notification on the desktop so that I don't have to open up Evolution and manually check for messages all the time?
