I've always played around lots with Window Managers. Though I got bored of Fluxbox. I quite like the configurability and themes of IceWM. After ages of trying I finally got Enlightenment working and soon got fed up with it being so arty and in-your-face.
I'm actually currently using YeahWM (based on EvilWM) with ROX for a taskbar and background.
I think the art of having a confortable GUI is using a combination of Apps that you like.
