Best web portal on Linux?

Hiya,

I'm looking at making a home server and I'm thinking about making a portal for it. I'd like to create something like the google/ig with AJAX. Does anyone recommend anything? I've seen a lot of neat portals out there, but I'd like something dynamic if it's not too much of a headache to setup. Thanks!

If you can list some of the specific features you want, it would help people to make suggestions. Are you looking for a blogging type thing? something which can have download sections? polls? integrated forums? integrated galleries? user accounts? sports leagues? serpartion of admin for different areas? multiple privilidge levels?

If you can define what you want to do, there's probably something out there to suit you, but it's hard to suggest something without knowing more.

If it's going to be just for you, look at something like Brim.

There aren't too many packages out there with AJAX features built in. You can add them, but if you don't know Javascript and some other language (server side) - it will be more of a headache.

Well, I don't want to do much programing so I guess that Ajax is kind of out. I found one called Ajax Portal, but it's not free...at least the modules weren't.

I guess I'm looking for something that would allow me to put up polls, bulletins, rss feeds, weather and junk like that. I like the features of google/ig with the dragging of module and the ability to easily add a new modules to you particular account.

It might be more pain then it's worth, in which case I'll just go with one of the better php portals out there. I would even like recommendations for which one to use.

I use a more or less out-of-the-box version of Drupal for the front page of porpoisehead.net. A friend of mine used Xoops and seems pretty happy with it.

I came accross opensourcecms.com which looks like it might be helpful for evaluating different projects.
