Best way to fix a FAT32 from Linux?

Hi

Here's what happened:
I went out and left windows (98SE) defragmenting C:
when i got home, it said there was some sort of error (only mentioned a number..)
After a while trying to fix it, i quit and reinstalled windows (without formatting)
only after installing drivers and some SW i realized there were lots of corrupted files

Files are usually totally good or totally corrupted, for example, affected mp3s don't even have id3 readable and other mp3 play perfectly from start to end

So i'm looking for any good tips and/or linux software to fix this mess.

Thanks in advance!
