best way to catalogue burnt cds
i have a load of homemade cds of all kinds of stuff and I can never find what I am looking for. I usually have to look through all the cds until I find it. very tedious. i was thinking about some sort of database, or even text file with a directory listing of all the cds in it, then I can search for the file and it would let me know what cd it was in. Is there a better way. I wouldn't mind using sql but i would have to learn. This would be the better way. most of the cds are stuff like, html/txt files, images, shareware, own programs, email etc all sorted into different directories.

I've tried to do something similiar, but I never thought of using a database for it. I have a directory called disk_listings, and one file per disk in the directory. Each disk's file has a descriptive name like "november_backup_disk", and contains the output of "ls -R" done on the directory I mounted the disk on. I search this using grep. Hope this gives you some ideas, you've certainly given me one with the database...

Thats what I was thinking of, its a little easier than trying to implement the database yoke. Its just not as good i suppose - keep thinking if you find an easy solution let me know - thanks
