Being in the military, I know that war is the biggest example of when the bantha fodder hits the fan and the side that wins is the side that works as a team not as individuals.

You were not treated rudely. It was you that responded rudely. Go back and read the posts again. The first reply began with "May I respectfully". Your reply had nothing to do with the original response which suggest perhaps reading comprehension is not your strongest subject. Reading comprehension and good writing skills go hand in hand.

English grammar is not a light subject. If you cannot express yourself in an intelligent manner, then you will continue to be mis-understood and you will get frustrated. And the blame rests with you not someone else.

The Internet is filled with both proper and improper examples of written communications. The web sites and blogs that are the most important are the ones that are written well. Formal and informal writing styles have nothing to do with this. You can be informal in your written communications and still use proper grammar. The issue here is being understood properly and that was what some of the people here were trying to help you with and you perceived an attack where there was no attack.

you guys are just plain silly, it was no attack i was simply pointing out that it was stupid to respond with little smart ass remarks about punctuation on an internet forum. the reason i got pissed is because some jack ass is always responding like that on the internet , maybe i over reacted but its plain ridiculous when you cant post text without being critiqued. i was never misunderstood and i passed all the required english classes to get my bachelors degree, i have no problem with english. people who respond with stuff like that make carrying on conversation on the internet not worth the hassle, i would normally just delete the link when i run into garbage like that. i will not be posting here anymore. it never fails though, when dealing with computer people you are always confronted like that with the ego crap or somebody looking to point out something like that, i am glad that even though i am trained in programming i never picked up on that attitude.

WTF are you guys the guys mother ?
grammar is a totally superficial subject - period.
communication requires depth that goes way beyond stupid crap like grammar.
Jesus you ass hole you are talking about WAR and killing like it's some F^&*%NG example of positive human interaction. Why the H*LL should any of us give a crap about someone with such a small mind as that? War and kiling is the single largest failure in cooperation and communication and the human spirit the world has ever known ! I say if you can't understand what we are saying well duhhhhh.
No matter how many superficial grammar books we read you will never understand what we are saying
until you stop bed wetting or whatever it is that's your problem.
Give us all a F&C&ING break !

its an ego thing for some people they see a guy without the need to boast his knowledge or act like a jerk and they hone in on it and pick something silly to point to make themselves feel better, i mean really i know he didnt come out an say something mean but those 1st few gramar remarks had no other purpouse i mean they try to play it off like were giving you good advice, but why would anybody respond like that "you should try punctuation" and "i like paragraphs dont you" those were smart ass responses and it was obvious basically the unwritten meaning was "what were you thinking dumb ass you should know better", if he was unsure about what i had wrote and wanted to ask, he would have tried to read it and ask for clarification on what he had trouble understanding. and they have drug this out for two pages now and yes i have been replying because its really quite silly and i want them to know that when they thought theyd point out my silly mistakes i wasnt just going to hang my head and go away , no i respond and give em a hard time right back! one of them tried to accuse me of being selfish by not formatting paragraphs and thats how war got brought up, i just pointed out that everyone is selfish, i mean maybe even at times of war people pool there resources to win but what i mean by limiting the resources and youll see everybody is selfish is like if suddenly there was only food for 10% of people in the world, do you think big bubba full of muscles is going to say to a brilliant scientist that he will let himself die to feed the scientist because society would better be served by the scientist than himself. thats what i meant and they know it they just twist my words to fit their meaning.

Please excuse my grammar but English is my third language.
Any how I went to this tread, following my curiosity; as the title seemed interesting, so if you grammar fights are over, what is "The best Version of Linux"?

Thanks

Speaking as the "jack ass always responding like that on the internet" I would like to point out that I was polite in my first post and it was a genuine attempt to help someone who obviously has difficulty communicating. Your attitutde is the one that is completely out of line.

Let's recap.
LQ exists to help people.
People come here to ask questions of a large body of subject matter experts.
To ask a question of the community, you must type up a small post asking your question.
To answer the question, people must be able to read and understand your question, otherwise, you will not get an answer.

Why wouldn't you want to type a clean, clear, and concise post. To me it seems in your best interest since you are one coming to ask the questions. You will only be limiting who will respond to your post, and therefore possibly missing out on the answer you are looking for. As far as I am concerned, if you want to get the most out of the LQ community, your post needs to be seen by as much of the community as possible. I mean, isn't that the purpose of a forum?

But then again, what do I know...

forget the silly grammar stuff,
Kool99 that was the question, i have installed redhat 9 and like parts of it but i would like to install more to see the difference, they say the core is the same on most releases around the same time but red hat 9 is somewhat old so i may be running out of date software, i cant get some of my hardware to work with it, it doesnt like my hp psc 1200 printer nor any of my other usb devices really (flash drive, webcam, external hard drive , memory card reader) they would probably work had i been able to find the correct drivers. so for my input, red hat 9 is an ok os but probably not the best out there seeing as it is like 5 releases old from redhat (FC1 FC2 FC3 FC4) if i was going to reinstall and wanted to try redhat i would use Fedora Core 4 as it most likely has updated drivers. somebody has mentioned debian, i looked and it has like 15 install cd's this may be a good sign that it is packed with all of the drivers and apps you need.
