My two ATI 7000 series cards (one 32M the other 64M) both work fine with the open source radeon driver. They are both PCI in AMD K6 machines (K6-2/500 and K6-III+600) with 512MNB ram. I don't use them for video playback however so cannot comment on the smoothness of video streaming. Both machines are running Slackware.

@NyteOwl don't suppose you'd have a link to that driver would you, I'd really appreciate it.
I'm very happy to give it a try just to get away from Windows in the first instance.
