Question Best software(s) for high end photography

Hi all,

I'm more of a network tech than an arts/photographer professional.
Been asked by someone that wants to try linux as to what softwares for the above.
Google search did come up with some links but thought someone here would know more.
Any advice please?

You mean for editing still photos? The GIMP, without question. It's in the repos of every major distro.

Here's a great website devoted to how to use it.

Agreed!
To manage one's photos they might also consider, digiKam.

If one doesn't need the full power of The GIMP, XnView MP can function as a viewer, an editor (limited as compared to The GIMP) and has file management capabilities.

You might look at Darktable or RawTherapee.

Out of curiosity, what did you find in your web search?

yes, a lot of good software were listed. But a professional has his/her own favorite tool, so the question is usually if that can run on linux. And unfortunately we have a lot of commercial tools which are only available for windows.
I use darktable, but I don't make high end pictures.

It is still possible to use some commercial software meant for windows on Linux.,
