I use Mepis, not as an installed distro (have done so in the past) but mainly for system recovery coz I am more comfortable with it than Knoppix. I also pass on copies of Mepis and Knoppix to people who would like to test drive Linux without actually installing it and to my friends back in Africa who can't afford their own personal PC's but would like to use and develop on Linux. As for Ubuntu, I have been using it for a few months now as a test distro coz I am studying for the Linux+ exam and the book I am using focuses mainly on Redhat/Fedora and Debian, so Ubuntu is a good Debian derivative. As for my main distro, well, it used to be Slack, but now I sort of use Fedora and Slack more or less the same and I am comfortable with both. As a nebie, I believe that something like Mepis is a good way to start using Linux and then you may want to explore other distros, not necessarily to change you default distro, but just to familiarise yourself with how they work.

As for the forums, I don't think there are any questions that can be regarded as dumb, but we are not all guru's (well, thats why the forum is there right ) and you right to ask coz if you don't, you will never know. I am glad you have found the mepis forums useful, I always found them okay when I spent some time there.

Thank you.reddazz, the one thing about the Mepis Lovers forum is that the people there are constantly upgrading it and they encourage questions. I have knoppix, mandrake, suse 9.1 pro enterprise and home, gentoo, redhat, fedora and the only one that I can install by myself is Mepis. I was going to get to get Ubuntu but it got a bad review in one of the forums, but now the I've read a little from you I might buy it.
The Mepis I really want for daily use, and I'm glad you meniionted it as a good recovery distro,I did not know that. The others and my Windows are really just to learn installation, configuring, and troubleshooting. Anyway thank you for the imput,Saquear!!!
