I found a DVD that did that once. It was horrible on my part because I just started ripping it without testing it. The final product was film, but directory commentary instead of audio. For about 20 minutes I just thought the audio sync was off

Try this:
mplayer -dvd 1 -alang en -slang en

That was what worked for me (IIRC).

Hi Mahlanom!!!

What DVD player have you got? I've a LG DVD Player and it has problems with some movies, as Lord of the Rings Extended. You can find a patch to fix it at their homepage... Probably won't have for Linux though but take a look at your manufactors page

I've had a far better experience with xine (for dvd's at least) mplayer just started playing the first track whereas xine let me jump around all over the place and the quickly jump to menus and such. I don't know if I didn't set up mplayer right but xine was a lot easier to set up too all I had to do was install libdvdcss and libdvdread and it worked flawlessly

As many others have suggested, mPlayer. It is my favourite. I also had good results with ogle.
