If your windows PC is on the same network as your linux box, you could use XDMCP. I've used this on Solaris but not on Linux and it works well. There's an XDMCP How-To on TLDP (
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/XDMCP-HOWTO/) but I don't know how up to date it is.
The advantages of XDMCP as I recall were that you could get a login prompt on your *nix box remotely, much like you do with remote desktop.
