Best region-free DVD playing software?

I'd like to hear your opinions, under XP I have the set up thus

Flashed drive BIOS to remove regionning
Running Elaborate Bytes' (www.elby.org) RegionKiller
Using the version of PowerDVD that came with my machine
The drive is a Samsung SM-308B Combo drive (DVD/CD-RW).

So how do I get to my current state of afairs (insert any DVD and it will play) under Linux?

This last point may be more Hardware than Software but at the moment my drive is showing up as a CDRW, is this correct/normal?
