I'm new to the forum and I browsed through the first several pages of the forum and couldn't find anything. I googled and saw a couple things but nothing really helpful. I'm in charge of compiling a yearbook for our homeschool group. I wanted to put it in .pdf on a cd with a html page autolaunch on insert (already got that part handled) but I'm looking for the best pdf creator/editor available on linux, import pictures, add text, format the page in various ways with text in diffrent possitions and pictures and diffrent possitions etc. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
any of the linux office suites can either print as a pdf file or export as a pdf file. Openoffice is pretty good at exporting documents to pdf. As far as a solution like the Adobe Acrobat suite, i'm not aware of an equal free equivalent.
When I said diffrent formats I should have ellaborated on myself better, some of the programs I've used in the past have been very stripped down and toke painstaking work in order to format the page itself with pictures and text in odd possitions to make the document more interesting for the readers. As for installing OpenOffice.org I should just be able to download the tar ball and compile it without too much other work yes?
My appologies, I just found the page on openoffice.org that gave a link saying that linuxpackages.com had a .tgz file for slackware. I'll try and get a friend to download it for me (seeing as how I have a dialup connection) and go from there. Thanks for all the help.
