Question best open source application ever used ?

Hi,

I've started a podcast ( www.sourcetrunk.com ) exclusively on open source software ( reviews of open source software ) and I'm really in need of good feedback from you people.

While I know what I like in open source software I would love to ask 3 simple questions to give me some inspiration for the next shows to come. I have a feeling that I'm a bit too focussed on the things I like and that is just wrong.

1. what would be the finest open source application you've ever used ?
2. did it replace a closed source application (and if so, which one)
3. what do you do to support or propagate open source software ?

any feedback would be of enourmous help, even mentioning that you're going proprietary (and why) could be helpful

thanks,
Dimitri.

i say "that looks good but you know what would be beter ? if you could do this and do that....." and that generally reads to them installing something opensource

all the best with the podcast mate.

Whiskey already said Firefox, so I will do something different (I assume you don't want to see a bunch of the same things said about the same programs.

1. I think that Dia is very well written, and wonderfully useful in my professional life. Everything is very smooth and I never feel like I am limited by the software.

2. It aims to replace Visio, but to be fair it is not actually that advanced. It does replace it for more casual use, however.

3. I try to let people know about OSS whenever possible. For example, I might suggest Open Office to a person asking where they can buy Office. I also give out burned copies of open source programs and operating systems. I have given out Open Office, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Slackware, SLAX, etc.

Dia

funny that you mention Dia, I have been using this for a week now and it totally replaced my Omnigraffle I used to use at work. Dia is indeed very nice software, I much like the Cisco symbols. Simple but does the job.

Dimitri.
