Best Music Player (Not XMMS)
Im sick of using XMMS. It's a winamp clone & i didnt like using winamp when i had windows. My main problem is that I use ID3 v2.3 tags on everything because they work the best with my MP3 Player, but XMMS doesnt read my ID3 v2.3. I also like to see more information about my tracks in my playlist and maybe ID3 attached cover art as well (thats why i use ID3 v2.3). I guess i want something with a layout more like iTunes than Winamp. Any suggestions?

Amarok is better, but its built for KDE. Im using Gnome so amarok isnt skinned and it looks really ugly in compairison to the rest of my desktop.

if you're using gnome...try rhythmbox itunes-like musicplayer!

MPD, nothing beats it in terms of flexiblity. Its developed, matured, stable and highly configurable. I personally use it with an openbox pipe-menu for control.

dont look at name-snackamp
good player, plays not only based ID tags, but is able to play whatever way directly from catalogs 10000+ files in dir-no problem.

search it in, works also in windows.

thanks guys. im using rhythmbox now. it wont show me album art, but it works nice for everything else i need. its built for gnome as well, so it is skinned nicely with my desktop.

Is there any music player out there with similar library functionality as MusicMatch for Windows (or almost iTunes) when it comes to filtering based on genre, mood or similar?

With 2000+ MP3's, sometimes I want to play only Rock'n'roll, other times I want to play only chillout, and still be able to sort on Artist, Track name or Album, without getting all the ballads, christmas songs etc in the way...

Is there currently a music player for Linux that can do this just like MusicMatch?

If you have all your ID3s acurate Rhythmbox does that. You can pick a genre, then an artist within that genre, then an album by that artist. Or you can make playlists just like in iTunes.
