Best linux OS that can play All audio and video files.

hi

Suggest me the best linux distro that can play all audio and video files and bsnl EVDO internet. I have BSNL provide linktop modem.

Most of the distributions can do that. You need proper codecs and player for your files. EVDO can also be connected on almost all the distributions. If you are new, go with Ubuntu or Mint.

Hi there,
One of the best things you can *really* do is download mplayer and xine (or whatever you prefer) in source code and then install it. This is a lot better as it will help you understand codecs better and would also make sure that you know how to install software on linux.
Another way is to install wine on the os and then run vlc or something simillar. This will work too :).

This is why linux is much much better.

Mint has Flash and proprietary media codecs pre-installed.

Wow you give nice information. You can use a program called xmms to play audio. For video you need some other programs that come with KDE or gnome depending on which one you're using.

I think that VLC is pretty much the best for all you audio and video needs, not to mention it supports just about every audio/video format in existence!

With Ubuntu and Debian, restricted codecs are just an apt-get away, but they aren't pre-installed.

They aren't pre-installed with openSUSE either, but getting multimedia up and running was a major pain in the butt, at least with 11.2. I haven't given 11.3 a go, but I imagine it is the same way. So I don't recommend openSUSE.

PCLinuxOS comes with flash and popular codecs pre-installed, as does Linux Mint. I recommend either of those.

I'm so happy because yesterday I finally found the way to connect my EVDO modem. Ha..ha..

Congratulations for that. But this not the proper thread for your success story. Never hijack threads from other members. You can start off a new thread in Members success stories area and give out the solution how you did it so that others can benefit from it.
