I am looking to move entirely to linux (currently using thunderbird -Lin-/lockout, imean outlook -Win-), but first I need to be able to do something. That something is us .pst file, or something of the sort. Is there a linux mail client that can store local files for copying email to and organize however I wish? What's the best choice or is it just a matter of personal taste?
Thunderbird is probably your best option, you can import mail from your pst file by installing thunderbird on your windows system, importing from outlook and then copying the thunderbird profile to your linux installation.
I haven't tried, but does thunderbird allow you to use an external file to store email and archive them? I like Thunderbird, but that is something I really need to have. thnx
I use Thunderbird as an Outlook 2k3 replacement.
One problem, importing PSTs, won't happen.
The way to get PSTs into Thunderbird is to have Outlook, Outlook Express, and Thunderbird installed on a windows machine. Then export Outlook data to Outlook Express then import it from Thunderbird.
This, obviously, does not work on linux.
I found some software for mac that will convert PST to .mbox, but it costs $10.
If Evolution allows local storing of e-mails and the ability to import PST, I may swith over (looking it up now).
