want to know what i should use and what works the ez-est.

Totem (http://www.hadess.net/totem.php3) is a nice simple DVD player based on xine, mplayer is another popular choice.However, totem and xine both support menus unlike mplayer.

You will also need to install libdvdcss (http://developers.videolan.org/libdvdcss/) to enable playback of encrypted DVDs (i.e most shop bought DVDs though do note the copyright stuff)
