Talking Best Distro for an AMD 2.25 GHz CPU, 3GB Ram

Trying to decide what Linux Disto to start with on
old AMD 2.25 GHz, A7V8X-X CPU w/ 3 GB. Was thinking
Mint KDE from comments I've read.

While the Athlon XP 2800+ in todays terms isn't a fast CPU you should be able to run any distribution you want.

I think your CPU is similar to the one I'm using and you have twice my memory, so you'll be fine. But if I'm right, the version of flash-plugin supplied will have to be replaced:

I'm not so sure about Mint KDE:

Most Mint users have the Mate or Cinnamon versions, so they are more quickly debugged. If you like KDE, have a look at PCLinuxOS:

Many people here have to run linux on older stuff. I'd suggest you try a number of distro's to see what you like. As noted above, it isn't bad at all and should run OK.

Don't forget about bsd's too. Dual boot it with few even if you want.

Could run a vm on it.

CPU is a bit feeble, but fortunately you've got enough ram. You could run kde, probably with the effects turned down to a low level, but you might be happier with something lighter such as XFCE or LXDE. Distribution? Something that provides your choice of GUI, whichever you end up with.
