Best codecs for Mplayer on RH 9??

Hey people,

Just installed MPlayer on my Laptop. Ocassionally when I play I get that damn message

"Too many frames in buffer" error message. I downloaded several codecs DivX, MPEG, win32 and such from the Mplayer Site.

I have an ATI Rage Mobility AGP card card on my Dell Inspiron 5000 .

Is there any particular codec that works best for this card? Also anyone know what option to pass to mplayer to load a specific codec during run time?

Did you mean the error message "too many dropped frames" ?

Maybe the following URL with some MPlayer tuning tips can help you : "http://freshmeat.net/articles/view/747/"

What does the following command say?

mplayer <insert your favorite movie here> |grep "video decoder"

If it says "Opening video decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg's libavcodec codec family" then MPlayer is already using a very nice decoder.

Good luck.
