Best chat program for Linux desktops in call centre?
Hi everyone,
A friend of mine is setting up infrastructure for a new call centre and they are using Ubuntu Linux on staff desktops. They need a chat program that will only work on the local network, and they want to allow staff to only access a browser, the chat client and spreadsheet software.
(a) What chat program can they use, and
(b) How can one disactivate most of the programs running on the desktop? Is uninstalling via synaptic/ Ubuntu Software Centre overkill?
You could try a combination of Openfire(XMPP Server) & Spark(client). empathy should work fine as a client too, its on by default in Ubuntu since 10.04(i think).
Triumph: Openfire 3.6.4 has a memory leak issue when used with Empathy (here:http://community.igniterealtime.org/thread/40018), you might want to give pidgin or the Spark IM Client a try instead.
