Beryl problems not working and locks keys in gentoo

Hi there, having looked at the wonderful things that beryl can do I thought i'd give it a try, i unmasked and installed with the kde ude flag. I also created the
/etc/env.d/99kde-env file as required. I've booted up and have got a red gem in my taskbar. I guess this is a good thing as i dont get the white screens that people are complaining about mainly. However:

- when i select beryl using the manager, the keyboard promptly stops working , when i change back to KDe manager , the kerboard starts to work again.

- i cant seem to get beryl to work in any case as all that happens when i choose it from the menu is that my windows decorations disappear. I've tried the suggested fixes of typing emerald in a console and also creating a manual startup script. I've had no luck. Does any one else have any suggestions?

I'm a FC6 user with Beryl/Emerald installed with Gnome and I just open a
terminal and type
Code:
beryl-manager
then wait a bit and the Beryl splash
shows then exit out of the terminal.

Then go to the Beryl icon make sure beryl is selected then choose to
"reload window manager" beryl splash reappears and you should be all set,but
as I said I'm on FC6.

I do have Compiz installed and can just go to "System>Preferences>Desktop Effects>Enable-Desktop-Effects>close when using Compiz.

I also have KDE but have never tried the effects with it yet, will change window managers
here and see what happens.

Unfortunately it doesnt display a spashscreen and only shows the menu which i can get when i right lick the red gem icon in my system tray. When i select beryl, it now hides all my taskbar too so i cant get back to the manager to reset it back to KDE. The keyboard problem still exists

I loaded KDE and beryl-manager worked for me. Sorry you didn't
get yours working yet. I know there were some issues with compiz
and beryl with FC5 for me and I spent a bit of time at the Fedora
forum getting it sorted out.

I have a Nvidia card that required the kernel modules and nvidia drivers
to be installed too. When you click on the beryl icon there is a
"beryl settings manager" that should give you access to all settings that
enable all functions eg wobbly windows, rain, skydome etc.

You may have to edit your xorg.conf file too.
