Benchtesting software

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for some good benchtesting software.

So you can understand, I have a production box (Red Hat 9) at work we are looking at upgrading because the hardware is old. I basically need some software that's will let me look at the load on the network controller, storage, memory etc so I can find out where it's bottlenecking when it's put under load.

I need to know this info so I know what model to recommend upgrading to and how to spec it.

I've downloaded and installed SAR but haven't had a chance to sit down and learn it yet. Is this software good for the job? Or is there something else you guys recommend that would be better fit for this purpose?

sar does a good job, so does vmstat. And good old trusty top is a valuable
tool, too. Btw, for a server class machine I would be using a server class
distro :} ... not RH9.
