Exclamation Battery akpi not functioning

For some reason akpi deosn't work or the klaptop utility of SuSE 8.2 Pro. When the power adapter is on is comes up with it but when its on the display of either utility goes haywire!! e.g. akpi shows -2343465345432 % !!!

So there is no way that I can see my battery level.

I use a DELL Inspiron 4100 and SuSE 8.2 Professional.

Thanks for all the replies in advance

What kernel is SuSE 8.2 using, do you
know whether SuSE incorporates the
patches from http://acpi.sourceforge.net ?

Cheers,
Tink

Question

The kernel is 2.4.20-4GB. It has ACPI Support option but I've been reading the ACPI How To and I am a bit lost

I am not very familiar with recompiling the kernel.

how can i find out if my BIOS is ACPI enabled ?

Thanks for the help
