bandwidth control for postfix??

Hi,

I notice when many users within network sending attachment file (like 2-3Mb) on over email , the ping response time go from 100ms to 3xxx ms. Now is there a way to allocate certain bandwidth for postfix so user can still surf internet when some large emails is sending in process? I heard some ppl mentioned about Qos on linux but i know little about networking. Can someone help me out with this?

ps: my linux server is debain (sarge) with upload 256 bandwidth.

you would use the tc commands to rate limit outbound port 25 traffic. this is part of the traffic control tools, documented fully at http://lartc.org. You might prefer though to look at the "wondershaper" script: http://lartc.org/wondershaper/ which wraps tc and is designed to just make things good in general without requiring fine tuning for any setup, other than being told what your total bandwidths are
