Dear fellows,
I client of mine have a network with about 300 users. Not all are up all the time, of course. They have valid class C address.
My client is a kind of ISP provider for a small community, a condo of houses. They are not a public ISP. They are a non-profit company.
My client is looking for a way to manage the bandwidth in a per client basis. I mean, let each user to use no more than 300kbps. Features like QoS to priorize http traffic, would be nice too.
We eval products like Sitara (
http://www.getech.co.uk/products/sitara/sitara.htm) and Packeteer (
http://www.packeteer.com/) that are great and do all the job, but it is very expensive for this community.
I eval smoothwall with the QoS module, and it works well to enforce a QoS policy, but there is no way to limit traffic in a well shaped way, neither a control on a client base. Other problem with smoothwall is it only works doing NAT.
Finally, the question:
Do you known any opensource alternatives for such application ? Would be nice a friendly GUI so they can manage the system by themselves.
any ideas or comments are welcome !
