Bad sound in Quake 4 demo on free mandriva linux 2006


Hi all. I got a problem. My distro is: free mandriva linux 2006.
My pc:

cpu-amd64 venice 3000+
gpu-gf 5900xt
ram geil 1024 MB
gpu drivers-latest i mean 8178

I got normal sound when im "in" the KDE desktop and when im listing mp3 in amaroK.

I got strange sound in q4. Just bad sound. dunno why. My sound card is: Realtek ALC850 @ ULi/ALi M5455 AC'97 Audio Controller (its mobo sound chip) (info from everest). How to instal drivers to my sound card ?

Hi,

I had the same prob.
Running the demo with this line fixed it for me:

Code:
quake4-demo +set s_driver oss

When i try that "line" i got no sound in q4 . I use snd-intel8x00 [ALSA] driver so imo this sould be other command but ofc i dunno which one . Pliz help.

there are some good tips here that helped me:

i cant recall what i did to my sound working since i did so much
..but it only works with OSS.... ALSA made all the charcters sound like robots.

i think its something to do with the sampling rate an ALSA..try forcing it to 44100Hz in the Control Centre.

OK. I find a solutin of this problem.

U need to put this line in the console:

quake4-demo +set s_driver oss +set s_numberOfSpeakers 2


It works for me i hope it will work for U :P. Thx for help.

You should be able to use alsa

In your q4config.cfg try entering this >> seta s_alsa_lib "libasound.so.0" and delete this >> seta s_alsa_lib "libasound.so.2"
