bad length in CompatMap

I updated a couple of packages using Synaptic and now I can't log in to any non-root account. For the record, I'm running PCLinuxOS 2007. After rooting around in my xorg.conf and clearing/replacing/changing permissions for /var/tmp, this is the error I get when I try to startx on my regular account:

The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Error: bad length in CompatMap
> Output file "/var/tmp/server-0.xkm" removed
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
Could not init font path element unix/:-1, removing from list!

This flashes for a brief second, then I get my nvidia splash screen and a message box that reads: "Call to lnusertemp failed (temporary directories full?). Check your installation."

EDIT: I haven't lost ownership of my home directory either.
/var is not full. I have looked through this multiple times. Google has failed me, as everyone else with this problem either did some kind of auto-clean on /var (which magically fixed it) or reinstalled their distro. I need an answer quickly.
