Bad Bad Help!!!!!

this is the second time i have tried to install Ximian Evolution, using the instructions from their site, using the slackware package on slackware 9.0 and it has mutilated Gnome again. DAMMIT!!!!! I try to login to gnome from the GDM greeter and i keep getting bonbono errors telling me gnome will not load and its killing my panels. WTF. I am so sick of this S*#T. Has this happened to anyone else. Or can anyone tell me how to fix this without using the windows methods of reinstalling. I am stuck with KDE right now and i hate it.

i've got ximian 1.44 working on slack 9. get the package from linuxpackages.net. follow the instructions on how to install it.

better:

get slapt-get or swaret.

Bro, no need to stress out. I've made this very same recommendation numerous times before, but you should look into installing Dropline http://www.dropline.net/gnome/index.php

Dropline is a large collection of common packages (>160) including many useful things for Slack including Evolution. Installation of Dropline itself is cake and it then will automatically download and install all necessary packages for you. Check it out and you should have Evolution up and running, under the beautiful clean Gnome WM, with virtually no effort on your part. -- J.W.

I installed dropline. It seems pretty good, for the most part. Gnome has crashed on certin applications a couple of times, and evolution has been a little goofy at times, but all in all, its pretty good. I will just make sure to instlall the updates as they are available. I will say this though. My DVD player has never worked properly in linux before until i installed dropline. I have had Xine work before, but the DVD would get jumpy and it was not very pleasureful to watch. Totem, that comes with Dropline, works pretty well.

maybe you should have removed your old version of gnome befor installing dropline-gnome
totem is a xine version but you may try mplayer for your multimedia files slack package avaible at http://linuxpackages.net install it and make sure you have the files mentioned on the download page only 4 little files and to start it use gmplayer if you want a gui or mplayer for console mode ...

have fun
