Backup question
 
What's up?:) By the way,I have got a question about backing up my RedHat 8.0 server.The question is as follows.

First off,I would like to ask is it okay to tar and gzip all the files under / . If I want to re-install it,may I install a new RedHat 8.0 and paste all the folders to the new RedHat 8.0 / directories?

Please give me some clue.

Sure. If you tar up everything from / on down, there shouldn't be a problem. Make sure you retain permissions. Also, remember /proc changes each boot and each kernel, so you can leave that out, but remember to create the directory on the new drive.
