backup files to DVD older than a certain date

Hello,

I have a large number of files and I want to backup some of them to DVDs. I'd probably like to use about 10 DVDs to backup a portion of the older files. What I'm looking for is a command(s) that would list files older than a certain date and tell me the cumulative size of all of those files. It would be nice if the command could move (copy then delete probably) the files if the group of listed files meets the size requirements of a DVD.

I know I could use find to list files older than a certain date, but I can't think of how to determine their cumulative size.

Can anyone suggest something?

Thanks in advance,

//Rob

ls -l will print the date. You can rearange the LS command to show it in front to avoid problems with file name with spaces. Then use grep to select the years and then the month with some regex

or

use the find command

To check for size, use the du command.

You can also automate the disk creation by playing with growiso and loop devices + mount.

To automate all that, no single command will work, you need to write a script using these commands.
