Back to Alsa after instaling OSS?

Hello
I just installed OSS. Before that, I had Alsa.
Now with OSS I have my sound worse. I cannot adjust the volume.
Is that possible?
And how can I back to Alsa'?
I installed that
Code:
   apt-get install libasound2 alsa-utils alsa-oss
but I didnot back to ALSA still
What else I have to do?

------------
I have debian lenny and gnome

There are many parts to a whole. Make sure you have all the parts. Make sure that extra parts (OSS) are no longer in the way.

$ lsmod
all alsa modules are prefixed snd- (snd_). So if it looks sound-ish and not prefixed with snd-, it's probably a remnant of OSS.

# /etc/init.d/alsasound stop
# /etc/init.d/alsasound start

or

# /etc/init.d alsasound restart

If you've significantly changed your configuration (/etc/modprobe.d/alsa*) you might need to reboot to make things current, or just restart everything affected. artsd / esd / pulse-audio / udev / dbus / ....... Most times it's just simpler to reboot.

And other things depending your hardware and configuration.
