Try downloading the latest version:

I had a problem with it a few weeks ago after one of the program updates and I reinstall fixed it.

ok,..i somewhat solved the problem but i dont understand the reason behind it.

i went to the azureus sourceforge page and since i am using a x86_64 version of openSUSE,..i downloaded AMD64 bit version of azureus.

and now i am able to use azureus but whenever i run it, a error log file is created in the azureus folder which says
"An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment:
# SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x00002aaac2bf5790, pid=11173, tid=1076017488"

and it is followed by a long list of characters.

i have the 1.6.0_01-b06 version of JRE installed.

I managed to get Azureus 3 (Vuze) running on Gentoo AMD64 with Sun JRE
I was getting the "Browser check failed " error that Vardhaman has mentioned.
Most of us use 32-bit Firefox and 64-bit Azureus. Therein lies the problem. We need a 64-bit Firefox.

To fix this
  1. Download or an equivalent package for your distro. Make sure its a 64-bit one.
  2. Extract it to /opt/mozilla-firefox
  3. Modify the azureus script in /opt/azureus and set the variable MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME to the path of this 64-bit Firefox
    export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME="/opt/mozilla-firefox/lib64/mozilla-firefox/"
  4. Uncomment the next line
This will NOT affect your current Firefox installation.
