Azureus not downloading

So I've got azureus working, and it's showing "green smileys" sometimes, so I know I've got a connection. The problem is that it's not downloading anything. I let my computer sit for like 13 hours, and at the end, there was still nothing downloaded. Am I doing something wrong? The ports I'm using are 16880 and 16881. I am behind a router, but I'm getting the correct color smiley, so there's no NAT problem. Thoughts?

I think the ports you want are 6880 & 6881, not 16880 or 16881.

the Azureus site said not to use those ports, because some ISPs intentionally slow traffic on those ports, or close them entirely. I'm using the ports they suggested...

You may want to request this thread be moved to the general software section. It could be a Debian related issue, but I doubt it.

I doesn't matter what ports you are using as long as the are openned in any software or hardware firewalls you are running. I have run azureus on many ports including ports in 50000-60000 range to avoid bandwidth throtling.

You might want to try running the configuration wizard under tools in the menu. I am running azureus on several deb boxes so It isn't a debian issue.

Just a thought but what sites are you downloading the torrents from. Sometimes if it requires membership and you haven't uploaded or seeded any files you can't download anything. The same thing happens if you user share ratio is too low. You can find a list of torrent sites and the popularity of them at http://www.torrents.to/

It may have been. It was a new site(I think), so the user base may not have been big enough... So it's probably not my version of azureus, but rather the torrents I was using? Is azureus generally faster than say...limewire?

I thinks it is. It can be extremly fast if you find a torrent with a lot of seeds and peers

ok, I'm still having this problem. I tried a completely different site, and a friend tried the exact same torrent that I used and his started downloading. I changed my ports to the same one's he had, and the same settings he had. I don't know where to go from here, I've got green smileys, and I'm connected to peers, but I'm still not getting any downloads

Some ISPs are blocking or throttling BitTorrent traffic, Howerver have you tried another client such as ktorrent just to rule things out?
