Avoiding DVDAuthor error when creating DVD structure.

Hi there,

I wrote a script a while ago to automatically do all the work required to create the DVD file system etc to burn movies I record off the TV to disc. Tthe problem is if I use the unaltered files I get an error message from DVDAuthor (called through tovid) when trying to create the DVD structure.

The error message is:
'ERR: SCR moves backwards, remultiplex input.'

My understanding is that the timing information as to when to show each frame is incorrect; or perhaps more accurately keeps going back to zero. I'm not surprised with this revelation because I have cut each file by extracting segements of the film out using ffmpeg and using cat to stick them all back together again, thus removing the adverts. I have been running a final ffmpeg in the vain hope that it will resolve any issues caused by my essentially sticking the segments all together with ffmpeg, but to no avail.

The ffmpeg I run on to extract the segements copies the audio and video as-is, because I'm reluctant to re-encode them if I don't need to. I see no need to waste time and perhaps quality when the input files are okay for DVD (according to tovid). If I do re-encode the files before running DVDAuthor then it seems to work but I did get a notable lip-sync issue about 10 minutes into the programme. Luckily I burnt it to a rewritable disc.

What I'm hoping is that someone will know of an option to add to ffmpeg or another tool that will allow me to correct the timing information without having to re-encode the entire video/audio streams.

Hopefully that will be sufficient information, I'm more that happy to provide more if required.

Tom
