Post autotools data help

im still learning how to use all the autotools (automake, autoconf, etc...) i now have a couple image files that my program uses. how do i work these into my autotools files?

i imagine in the i would put....

bin_PROGRAMS = hello
hello_SOURCES = hello.c
hello_DATA = img1.png img2.png

but the in the source file, how do i know where they are going to be installed to so i can write the code accordingly? i would guess some #define in the config.h, but i dont know what to put in the file to have it write that into the config.h.
