automake error/make doesn't work anymore

Hell-o,

I tried to upgrade automake to 1.7 because some program said it required it. I never got the program to work so I tried to uninstall automake 1.7 and reinstall my normal automake that comes with Mandrake 10, automake 1.4. Now when I type in make, I get this:

cd . &&
/bin/sh: -c: line 2: syntax error: unexpected end of file
make: *** [configure] Error 2

Anybody know how to fix this? How do I install automake correctly?

Thanks,

Jason Hodges
