autofs question

Hi All!

I have a question about autofs behavior. I'm running RedHat Enterprise 4 linux. Basically I have automount tables set up via LDAP. I notice that whenever the NFS server referenced by the automounter is down or offline, the automounter hangs for like 3 minutes before letting you return to the prompt, even with repeated ^C and ^D breaks.

Is there any way to give it a "timeout" when trying to mount from a NFS server that is down? Or otherwise fail out after 1 try or something? This is a big deal for me because we have machines go offline often for service and other things.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Maybe someone knows the URL for the autofs/automountd developers site? That would help too.
