Audio program that records if there's a change in noise?

I'm looking for a program like Motion, only for audio. I'd like to leave a microphone out in my room and if there's a noise it records the noise and optionally executes a command. Obviously there would have to be a method to set the threshold of how loud of a sound can trigger the recording. Has anyone heard of such a program before? Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure we've handled this question before but I can't find it. Anyway: the sox package has a command line tool called 'rec' which has a "silence" parameter. See http://sox.sourceforge.net/Docs/Documentation, 'man rec' and example elsewhere http://unix.stackexchange.com/questi...ce-is-detected.
